5 Tips On Setting Up Your Kitchen with Thermomix®

"One of the most important places in our homes is the kitchen. It is the heart of the house and where we spend much of our time. More than simply a place to prepare our food, it is also where we socialize and connect." We collaborated with Thermomix Independent Consultant, Matthew Jablonski, who is based in New Jersey, and is also a passionate Interior Designer, and asked him to share the most "important factors to consider when creating a functional and practical kitchen, with Thermomix at its center."

Storage

"It is important to have a good amount of storage space in order to keep the kitchen clean and organized," says Matt. "Having unnecessary items sitting on the countertops has the potential to make the room feel small and cluttered. Utilizing storage space is also a great way to ensure that you know where all of your cookware is located. Personally, I like to place my Thermomix accessories on a dedicated shelf near my cooking station. I also reserve the deepest drawers for pots and pans, and I like to house my flatware in a cabinet that is located close to the dishwasher such that it is easy to put away. If you have the option, it can be beneficial to build the kitchen cabinets all the way to the top of the ceiling, because you will gain more storage space and fill the unnecessary gap between the cabinets and the ceiling which would be left to collect dust."

Lighting

"I like my kitchen to be as bright as possible - it is especially helpful in the preparation and curation of meals," shares Matt. "It is also a great idea to have a hanging fixture(s) over the table – or the island if you have one – as it will bring more light to the specific dining area and enhance the atmospheric charm. Similarly, if you do not have enough light on the counter underneath the cabinets, it is easy to add battery-charged lamps which will do the trick."

Thermomix

In Matt's kitchen, he says, "Thermomix is situated in the middle of the counter – a perfect place for it because it is easily accessible and on a solid surface such that the scale is secure. Additionally, there are no cabinets above it, thus allowing the steam to flow freely during the cooking process. Next to Thermomix, I always keep a small station with glass olive oil bottles and basic spices like salt and paper. This cute accessory can make your kitchen very attractive."

Layout

"If there is an opportunity to have an open concept kitchen connecting with the living room, it can be a wonderful way to utilize the space because the layout will facilitate an enjoyable cooking experience that can be shared with friends and family," says Matt. "When thinking about layout, it is also good to carefully consider the placement of your larger appliances like the dishwasher, refrigerator, and sink."

Floors

When it comes to flooring, Matt shares that "it is important to select material that is slip-resistant and easy to maintain. That is why a less porous floor tends to be the way to go. There are many different options, so be sure to weigh the pros and cons of the specific substances that appeal to you and to pick the one that best fits your design needs."
